What optics would you suggest i put on my Ruger M77 Mark 2, cal 270 for hunting?

I also shoot a 270 in a Winchester Model 70. My current scope is a Nikon 3x9x40 and I am pleased, but I believe if I had it to do over, I would take a hard look at a 4-12x either 40 or 44mm objective. My first choices would be Leupold vari-x III, or Nikon Monarch. I actually believe the Nikon is clearer and more light transmitting than the Leupold. I base this on owning 2 Nikon scopes and a miriad of Nikon camera lenses.
