SYNTAX IN DOLOR BY THEODORE ROETHKE?

The poem only has two sentences and is very fluid. This is a contrast to the monotonous, rigid lifestyle that Roethke is describing in his poetry. The syntax is fairly ordinary, although in some parts he uses unusual syntax, such as 'ritual of multigraph, paper-clip, comma'. The lists help to keep the pace of the poem, which is fairly slow. This exaggerates the dullness of life in a working environment.
