'84 Regal with a 3.8 V-6. When my car get's warm it has a sort of slight knock; a stutter if you will?

my best guess would be a broken exhaust valve which is spilling oil into the exhaust manifold from the valve cover. that knock could be the cylinder half *** combusting because it is not getting new air.
